:: Taking Care of Your Rope

Once you’ve purchased your rope, you need to take care of it. Twisted rope will come untwisted if not cared for, so the process to prevent that is called whipping. There are several ways to do this, but here is the easiest way:

If you have a synthetic rope, you can fuse the end of the rope by burning it slightly; however, it won’t carry the same aesthetics as whipping. Same holds true for just using tape. Once you have the ends of your rope whipped, you want to store your rope in such a way that it’s not just a big mess, so you’ll need to coil it. The first video shows a good trick to allow you to uncoil your rope easily and the second one shows the standard way to coil and an easy way to secure it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-sO62Gvqp4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2ChlCns4AU If your rope is used for suspension extra care will be needed – for example, don’t step on your rope and keep anything away from it that might degrade the strength, etc.
